Hydraulic Crawler Excavators " DX "
As a world premiere in Munich, Doosan will launch 3 new middle range hydraulic crawler excavators : The Doosan hydraulic excavators: DX180LC, DX225LC and DX255LC

Bauma 2007: Doosan is continuing the renewal of its hydraulic excavators in line with its top range of models and including many innovations already made to these top models.
Three new models will be presented in Munich.
The 17.7-ton DX180LC, the 21.5-ton DX225LC and finally the 24.6-ton DX255LC (tonnage of basic versions).

  • The Engine and performance

  • The new Doosan DL06 engine powers these three new excavator models. This turbo charged common rail engine is equipped with air to air inter cooling, 4 valves per cylinder and exhaust gas recirculation, which all help to ensure that the emissions generated are significantly lower than the limits stipulated by the Phase III regulations.

The engine power for the three models is 118, 148 and 173 HP (88, 110, 129 kW) respectively.

The maximum torque values have been increased in the case of the DX225LC and DX255LC, which also contributes to an increase in the performance of these excavators.

The level of performance in production has been increased for all three models, and following tests carried out in the field, the DX180LC is 12% more productive than the Solar 175LC-V and its efficiency (productivity per litre of fuel) has been increased by 13%.

The DX225LC is 9% more productive and its efficiency has been increased by 5%. Finally the DX255LC, which replaces the Solar 255LC-V an already highly productive machine, has increased its productivity by a further 3%.

The improved performance is not only related to the engine, but also includes the hydraulic system, that has been fundamentally redesigned to give improved controllability of each service and better combined operation of arm, boom and swing. This is achieved through improved metering characteristics of the main control valve spools, better control of the various flows within the control valve and enhanced joystick characteristics.

The new e-EPOS system combines information from the engine and hydraulic systems to optimise the hydraulic pump management.

Two power modes are offered to fulfil the operator’s needs for power or economy.

Two working modes are offered (digging mode for normal work and trench mode with priority given to rotation).

For fuel economy, the excavators are also equipped with an auto idle system, which automatically reduces the engine rpm when the machine is not being operated.

Finally, use of attachments is facilitated by programmable flow settings that can be set through the instrument panel & then easily selected to suite the attached tool by means of a simple switch situated on the dashboard.

  • The Cabin, driving comfort and ergonomics
  • The cabins on the new DX excavators are where some of the most obvious changes have taken place.

The width of the cabin has been increased by 45 mm, so increasing the volume of the cabin by over 5%.

The air flow of the climate control system has been increased by 8% and ventilation outlets have been repositioned ensuring greater comfort for the operator

The quality of the seat has also been improved, and now offers more adjustment options enabling the operator to easily find the best and most comfortable driving position.

Front and side visibility has been increased by reducing the width of the uprights and increasing the size of the glazed surfaces.

A transparent roof protection not only provides an additional 30% more natural light in the cabin but also increases safety for work requiring upward vision, such as demolition or material handling.

With regard to driving itself, everything has been done to facilitate the operator’s work, with t he driving information clearly shown on the monitor (The monitor can be set in various languages). Information on the maintenance to be carried out, such as oil and filter changes can also be viewed through monitor.

An anti-theft function is also provided by means of password entry, which can be chosen by the operator.

The noise level has been radically reduced both for the operator and the external environment, for example, the noise level in the cabin for the DX180LC and DX255LC is now only 71 dB.

  • Reliability, durability and maintenance
  • Doosan uses top quality components. This was a basic instruction, which the designers took into account throughout the development phases.

The Doosan hydraulic excavators are renowned for their reliability. So to ensure this continues structural elements have been revised by detailed analyses following finite element methods, and research programmes have been undertaken on the assemblies and components in order to increase reliability.

The manufacturing methods for the chassis, arm and boom have been improved in this way, with some castings, material thicknesses and welds being modified in order to ensure greater torsion resistance.

The structure of the buckets has been changed, with the bosses being reinforced to reduce lateral wear and tear and abrasion resistant steel has been used for the blade and lateral and rear plates.

The undercarriage has been completely revised, with the transmission directly mounted on the rear axle to increase ground clearance. New reinforced axles have been used, that help to reduce power losses and a revised brake set up that eliminates unwanted movements during digging operations.

The regular servicing requirements of the machine have almost been reduced by half, which is equivalent to hundreds of hours of work during the machines life. For example, the engine oil change is now every 500 hours and hydraulic oil every 2,000 hours. In order to achieve this, various elements had to be improved such as the capacity and quality of some filters.

All the main components such as the engine, radiators, pumps and hydraulic distributor are easy to access to facilitate servicing.

In the event of a breakdown, some machine diagnostics may be carried out through the machine’s monitor panel, however for more serious interventions or during a full service, more sophisticated diagnostic tools (e-doctor & DMS) can be used to quickly analyse the condition of the engine and the main hydraulic components.

The materials used to manufacture all the pins (buckets & front end) have been improved & when combined with the sintered material used in the bushes reduce the time required for lubrication.

As a result, the new hydraulic excavators DX180LC, DX225LC and DX255LC offer the user maximum performance, comfort and reliability with excellent added value.
