Bobcat and DIPP Machinery Help Italian Earthquake Victims
31/05/2009 HIT : 1577
On April 6, the town of L’ Aquila in the mountains of central Italy was devastated by an earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale. Nearly 300 persons were killed, another 1,000 or so were injured, and an estimated 58,000 were left homeless.
The European headquarters of Doosan Bobcat in Waterloo, Belgium, coordinated the shipment of machinery from Bobcat and Doosan Infracore Portable Power to
help with the relief effort. The compact excavators, loaders, tele-handlers, and attachments were ideal for working in the narrow streets of this medieval town, and the portable lighting equipment enabled crews to work through the night.
Local volunteers used the equipment to remove rubble and clear pathways for rescue teams looking for survivors.
Various foreign media, including Reuters, Associate Press and the Brazilian weekly magazine Veja, reported on the use of the Doosan and Bobcat equipment in the relief effort.
