In 1985 the successful development of the STORM series engine, the independent model, provided us with a turning point for future business. We have steadily expanded our business on the foundation of accumulated technology and know-how, continued investment in R&D, and our experience of developing over 1,000 different applications. We produce 34 typical models (24 to 1000 HP) of diesel engines through state-of-the-art-automated lines under a reliable quality control system. Currently, more than 250 types of equipment are equipped with these engines.
We have voluntarily taken the initiative regarding the protection of the earth's environment and the enhancement of alternative energy utilization. In 1999, we developed ultra-low-pollution CNG (compressed natural gas) engines that are used for natural gas buses in Korea and other foreign countries. And recently, we have succeeded in developing LPNG (low-pressure natural gas) engines for industrial equipment -gen-set applications.
Also, our Materials sector has delivered major component castings of engines such as cylinder blocks and heads, high-tech materials like brake discs used on an aircraft, and core casting parts of hydraulic valves for excavators.
To effectively cope with environment and safety-related regulations that are becoming more stringent in every part of the world, we are striving to improve our existing engines continuously and develop advanced new products such as the next generation ultra-low-pollution diesel engine. We are concentrating all of our efforts on becoming one of the world's leading engine makers with superior competitiveness, through integrated quality control and an enhanced service system. |
